Why Julianne Moore, 60, refuses to age gracefully

It’s hard for us to imagine the pressure placed on those in Hollywood to appear young and flawless at all times.

However, that only makes it more impressive to hear stories of stars that defy all of these pressures.Julianne Moore is widely recognized as one of the most talented and versatile actresses of her generation, admired and respected for her exceptional range and depth as a performer.

As a trailblazing woman in the entertainment industry, she has become an inspiration and role model for many reasons.

In a recent interview with The Sunday Times, Julianne Moore spoke candidly about embracing her age and the positive changes that come with it.

The star turned 60 during the pandemic, so she kept her milestone birthday fairly simple at the time.

“It was just dinner with my family — it wasn’t a blow-out or anything,” Moore told the U.K. newspaper. ”I was thankful that we were able to be together.”

Moore shares 23-year-old son Caleb and 19-year-old daughter Liv with her husband, director Bart Freundlich.

In Hollywood, female stars in particular are often victims of ageism. Even so, Moore explained that she is not afraid of becoming older.

“It seems so silly to talk about it as something negative when it is a privilege to continue to age,” she said.

”There’s so much judgement inherent in the term ‘aging gracefully.’”

”Is there an ungraceful way to age? We don’t have an option of course. No one has an option about aging, so it’s not a positive or a negative thing, it just is,” Moore said.

She has also shared that her former agent once told her that she was not attractive enough to be cast in roles by directors.

”Apparently the feedback kept coming in: ‘Could she be more prettier?’ And I remember thinking, ‘Oh dear, I’m not sure I have much control over that,’” she said.

”I’ve been very fortunate, but also I do hate to keep beating that ‘there’s nothing for women out there’ drum, because I feel like the more you say it the more you make it true,’ she added.

Julianne has also spoken about how she stays glowing as she ages, explaining, “My mother has a lot to do with it because she wouldn’t let us go in the sun.

“She couldn’t be in the sun and I look just like her. I wear a sunscreen on my face every day and a hat too.”

The red head also explained her use of facial treatments such as microneedling and radio frequency, and a diet that’s heavy on fish and veggies.

However, she also said, “I’m not that good, I like wine. I try to stick to things that make me happy.”In speaking with the newspaper, she also pointed out that she reached certain milestones later in life than some of her peers. She had her first child in her late 30s, and married Freundlich in her early 40s.

“I have been so lucky, I really have,” she says. “As a young person I was hard-working, laser-focused. I was persistent and consistent, always prepared for an audition, always on time. And I was working really well.

“But I did find my personal life wasn’t successful, and it wasn’t until I was in my early 30s that I decided, ‘I want that too.’ I wanted to have a family, to have children and to make sure I was with someone who wanted to have children too.”
