Most of us have been there, super excited to see our favorite band or singer perform live. It might have been hard getting the tickets, maybe we even had to wait for months, or they were a bit pricy. And as the big day approaches, you can’t help but count down the days. But imagine if you got sick…
That’s what happened to Theresa Shaw, a Garth Brooks superfan. Just as she was getting ready to see the famous country singer at the Target Center in Minneapolis, she got hit with an illness – not just any illness, but stage 3 breast cancer. Even on the day of the concert, she had to endure a chemo session. But, even though chemo is tough, she wasn’t about to let that stop her from going to the concert.
As Garth Brooks was singing “The Dance,” he spotted Theresa in the crowd. She was holding a sign that read: CHEMO THIS MORNING. GARTH TONIGHT. ENJOYING THE DANCE. He walked over to her, sat on the edge of the stage right in front of her and carried on singing, as if she was the only one in the room. He held her hands, gave her a kiss, and even gave her his guitar, keeping her sign instead. He told her, “You have all my strength, you have everybody’s strength in here, and you go kick cancer’s ass!”
To add to this amazing story, Theresa’s cancer went into remission. To celebrate, she went to another Garth Brooks concert, this time her sign read: I KICKED CANCER’S ASS. STILL ENJOYING THE DANCE.
So, are you a Garth Brooks fan? Or do you at least admire what he did for a fan fighting cancer? We want to hear your thoughts on our Facebook page. Don’t forget to like and share this uplifting story.
