Most people have experienced toothaches at some point, a discomfort often attributed to cavities, infections, or gum problems. However, the cause isn’t always oral. According to various alternative medicine theories, each tooth is linked to an organ or system in the human body, and pain could be a warning sign indicating potential internal changes.

The link between teeth and organs
There is a “dental meridian map” which suggests that the human body is interconnected by energy channels. For example, persistent pain in an apparently healthy tooth, or even in an extracted tooth, can reveal deeper imbalances.

Incisors (front teeth, upper and lower): These are linked to the kidneys and urinary system. Your pain could indicate problems such as a urinary tract infection, middle ear infection, or even chronic kidney disease.
Canines: They are linked to the liver and gallbladder. Their sensitivity may indicate liver or gallbladder disorders.
Premolars (fourth and fifth teeth): These are linked to the lungs and colon. They can be painful in cases of asthma, bronchitis, colitis, or allergic reactions such as rhinitis.
The molars (sixth and seventh teeth) reflect the state of the pancreas, stomach, spleen, and joints. They can indicate gastritis, pancreatitis, a stomach ulcer, anemia, arthritis, or intestinal problems.

Persistent pain in the first incisor may be related to hepatitis or cholecystitis .
Pain in the premolars, especially the lower ones, may indicate asthma or chronic lung problems .
Upper molars can be painful due to gastritis, duodenal ulcers, or anemia .
Pain in the lower molars may be related to arteriosclerosis, colitis, or joint inflammation .
Pain in the wisdom tooth can indicate heart or bowel problems
